The order every sailor hoped to hear: an extra ration of rum, all round. An 1832 cask, tap and all, in cream and brass on brick.

From the log: The main brace was one of the heaviest lines aboard and one of the hardest to repair. After a job like that, or a victory, the captain might order the crew to splice the main brace, which meant a drink for everyone.
