St. Augustine Harbor Map T-Shirt
Hold your bearings. A harbour, a walled town and the way in through the inlet, from Thomas Jefferys’s plan of St. Augustine, about 1762, with part of Anastasia Island. Navy and signal red on white.
From the log: Look for the stone quarry on Anastasia Island. Spanish builders cut coquina there, a soft rock of packed shells, for the Castillo de San Marcos, the star-shaped fort beside the town; cannonballs sank into its walls instead of shattering them. In 1763 the treaty that ended the Seven Years’ War handed Florida, fort and all, to Britain.
